As we enjoy the final days of 2022 and look forward to the possibilities ahead in 2023, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on all of the big things that happened at Pani this past year and celebrate how far we’ve come toward achieving our ambitious goals and optimizing water treatment around the world. Some of the highlights we’re most proud of include:
announcing new industry-leading customer deployments and partnerships,
speaking at renowned water and climate conferences and events,
growing the Pani team to make it all happen, and
evolving the Pani brand, sharing our goal to decarbonize the water treatment sector.
Needless to say, it’s been a busy and rewarding 365 days! Get the full scoop below.
Who Pani is working with
We’re excited to say that Pani’s decision-making intelligence tool is now deployed on five of seven continents around the world. Our aim is to help facilities at every stage do more with less and we will continue to develop solutions to make that happen, in collaboration with our customers and partners.
This year, we signed new deals with industry powerhouses like Orange County Water District’s Groundwater Replenishment System, Woodard & Curran, and SAWACO.
Where Pani went in 2022
We were also fortunate to participate in a number of industry conferences, as well as have speaking opportunities at a few sustainability and climate-related events. Our CEO, Devesh Bharadwaj, and other Pani team members shared our perspective on where the water treatment sector is today and where it could be with the help of technological advances like cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
Pani’s Point of View
To sum it up in a nutshell, digital solutions like the one Pani has built for optimizing water and wastewater treatment processes can bridge the gap between hardware advances in the sector and the lagging adoption of digital tools. As treatment process operations becomes more intense, software that uses plant data can make workflows and performance more efficient and effective, and can also mitigate the impact of the changing climate. Digital tools enable better decision-making at facilities of all types, regardless of where they are on their digital journey. These tools are especially impactful for large-scale industrial and desalination plants in reducing costs, operating risks, and energy and chemical consumption. Additionally, they provide a way to capture, retain, and transfer knowledge across operational teams and stakeholders, particularly as the talent pool and demographics of this critical workforce is set to shift in the next few years.

Industry Events
We were able to present our point of view at large industry gatherings like the Membrane Technology Conference, Singapore International Water Week, Global Water Summit in Madrid, BlueTech Forum, Future of Desalination International Conference, Texas Desal, WETEX, WEFTEC, and the International Water Conference.
One thing we heard consistently from audiences at these conferences is that facilities are increasingly having to do more with less (less operating budgets and less experienced staff to tackle stricter regulatory restrictions). We also met with organizations, big and small, who are turning to digital tools as a solution to this problem.
If you’re keen to connect in person at a future event, we’ll be kicking off next year at American Water Summit in January! Be sure to contact us to set up a dedicated time to chat.
Digital Solutions and Sustainability
We were also pleased to participate in a variety of sustainability-focused events, including Cleantech Forum 2022, Plug & Play Alberta’s first Sustainability cohort, The Water Council’s BREW 2.0 water technology accelerator, GLOBE Forum, World Bank’s Water Group meeting, Reuters NEXT’s panel discussion, a number of events hosted by Natural Resources Canada and other Canadian government bodies.
These opportunities broadened the reach and exposure of Pani’s mission, helping us take advantage of arenas in which we found like-minded partners and customers who are prioritizing sustainability as part of their everyday business practices.
Awards from Peers
A major highlight for our team was receiving recognition for both the leadership of our CEO, as well as industry kudos for the product we deliver to our customers. Some notable awards we’ve received in 2022 include:
making the Global Cleantech 100 for 2022,
receiving the Best Go-to-Market Strategy award at BlueTech Forum,
being named one of the Top Five Technologies for Net Zero at Global Water Summit,
Devesh receiving lifetime recognition as an Emerging Leader for 2023 in Canada’s Clean 50 awards,
and his recognition as one of Corporate Knights’ 30 Under 30 Sustainability Leaders for 2022.
We’re grateful for these awards and opportunities, as well as the range of others we’ve been nominated for throughout the year!
How Pani grew in 2022
Pani has grown a lot in just 12 months. This year marked our celebration of five years in business (kind of a big deal in startup world) and we expanded both internally and externally.
We added around 15 passionate and talented people to the team, helping with the growth in our customer and partner base. Pani’s brand has evolved too, gaining more recognition and equity than ever before. The company's look and feel also got an update as a reflection of the commitment to our mission and vision to reduce carbon emissions for the water treatment sector. This goal has gained good traction in the global market and we’re thrilled to have the Pani name recognized for its leadership by industry peers more and more often.

Where Pani’s heading in 2023 (and beyond)
Another big highlight that sets our course for the next decade came towards the end of the year as we launched our Roadmap to Decarbonization, in time for the COP27 climate conference’s Decarbonization Day.
This four-step plan establishes a target of 510 megatons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) emissions reduction per year, starting in 2032. The roadmap is not only a goal that we believe the water and wastewater treatment sector must work towards, but it’s also one that we see as being attainable for facilities to proactively work towards, accelerating the pace of industrial digital transformation by becoming a leading example of how to do it.

At the end of November, we had the privilege of hosting our first educational webinar, featuring industry expertise from The Coca-Cola Company’s Bottling Investments Group, Ion Exchange India, and WETICO.
We’ll be hosting another webinar for North and South American time zones in early 2023 and will be dedicating more time next year to developing resources and practical industry-focused content, like our reverse osmosis performance optimization paper.
